VeriSign Inc (Olympia, Washington) is seeking a skilled Senior Storage Administrator / Unix Administrator. This combined role is to operate and performance-tune storage platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security and to build Unix systems including monitoring, patching/upgrades, and troubleshooting. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure storage/unix provisioning, efficiency, and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities: Strategy & Planning · Participate in and support capacity planning and development of long-term strategic goals for enterprise storage/servers in conjunction with data owners and department managers. Acquisition & Deployment · Work with systems and database administrators to implement Unix servers and storage architectures that utilize industry best practices · Install and configure devices and corresponding software. · Implement redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of storage appliances and stored data assets. · Establish appropriate end-user access control levels for stored data. Operational Management · Perform tasks necessary to fulfill service level agreements with end-users regarding storage allocations, limitations, security, and availability and Unix server builds and upgrades. ·Perform and test backups and restores to ensure that enterprise data is effectively protected. ·Communicate and enforce, through system procedures, data storage retention policies. ·Follow change control, incident response, and testing processes for modifications to storage appliances and software. ·Anticipate, mitigate, identify, respond to, and resolve issues with storage devices, storage access, and data retrieval. ·Research and make recommendations on server hardware, storage products, services, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts. ·Monitor, analyze, and predict trends for storage equipment performance, space allocation, and data growth to recommend enhancements to the IT storage team. ·Remain informed on storage emerging technologies and best practices; advise, counsel, and educate management teams on their relative importance. ·Perform Unix server, storage server/database transaction and security audits leading to identification and mitigation of security threats to enterprise data. Recommend and implement changes where necessary. ·Create required reports in response to business user needs. ·Develop, document, and maintain operational processes and tasks.
[edit] Position Requirements:Knowledge & Experience ·Good understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices. ·Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting Unix servers and storage servers and management software. ·Solid skills in AIX and Solaris and operating systems. Linux is a plus. ·Basic knowledge of networking, TCP, UDP, etc. ·Hands-on SAN/NAS/DAS troubleshooting experience. ·Experience with tape/disk drives and Netbackup backup and restore technologies. ·Knowledge of applicable data retention practices. ·EMC CLARiiON CX3 Storage Arrays ·EMC Control Center and Navisphere Management Suite and Analyzer ·EMC Solutions Enabler/SYMCLI, PowerPath, SnapView, and SANCopy, Mirrorview ·EMC Symmetrix (SRDF/S, SRDF/A, & SRDF/AR) experience is a plus ·Brocade SAN Switches ·Fabric Design and Topologies ·Data Migration Methodolgies
