@ Seattle Public Library (Greenwood Branch)

Install Fest 2009 is being held on Software Freedom Day 2009 and in association with GSLUG and Free Geek Seattle. This is a free event, open to all, for the purposes of promoting free & open source software (FOSS) as well as the responsible reuse/recycling of computers.

The following activities are planned:

  • Linux installation of Ubuntu/Debian/Fedora/etc with on-site support team
  • Collection event for computer reuse/recycling
  • Lots of Free (open-source) software available
  • CDROMs, Books, Magazines, Stickers
  • Computer raffle & give-away at end of the event - enter to win a nice Linux system*
  • Refreshments
  • Networking
  • Learning
  • Sharing

To sign-up as a volunteer or participant, add your name below and show up a little early (the room opens at 12pm) to get set up. Feel free to bring addl. give-away items or offer support/expertise.

* Participants who complete an install are automatically entered & eligible at no cost.

Wrap up

About 18 people attended this event. We had quite a few drop-ins from library patrons wondering what all the hubbub was, and we gladly talked up Free Software and gave them live CDs to try out.
