Linux System Administrator

Our data-intensive research lab has an immediate opening for a FT Systems Administrator position in South Lake Union.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field (In lieu of degree, 4 years relevant work experience).
  • Knowledge of the UNIX/Linux operating system.
  • Three years of professional level experience in systems design, maintenance and troubleshooting, including implementation and support of large-scale heterogeneous networks.
  • Experience in the areas of data security, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • 2+ years overall development/technical support experience.
  • Experience maintaining and backing up terabytes of data from multiple servers/disk arrays.
  • Experience in the areas of data security, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.
  • Ability to retain composure under stressful conditions, communicates effectively with a wide array of individuals and gets the right things done.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with shell and/or Python scripting.
  • Experience with Oracle, PostSQL and MySQL databases.
  • Knowledge of Java-based technologies (Tomcat)
  • Knowledge of virtualization technology (VMWare, ESXi)
  • Knowledge of building/maintaining clusters (Hadoop/ROCKS)

Condition of Employment: The individual in this position will be expected to be available during non-business hours to address emergency system problems. Unix System Administrator

1 Year contract to hire opportunity with one of the Best Companies to work for in the NW

Scope Of the Position: The expectation is that this candidate will be one of the first hired on this team, they will work closely to the Engineering team. Since they will be one of the first brought on, they will train other team members in different locations to support customers (this will not include travel).

This position is for a new product launch that will be happening in June (the product cannot be disclosed yet). In order to bring on a person FT, they must have a 4 year college degree

-Looking for programming experience in Java, Python, C, C++- They are looking for someone with a range in programming. Not all experience focused in one area (ex- .Net). This is not on the level of a developer. They rather need someone who is familiar enough with OO language(s) to communicate with developers about existing code.

-linux/unix -coding & database experience (ms sql, oracle, my sql) -Networking Protocol experience- web based HTCP (hyper text caching) , SNCP (a storage networking technology)

    • Any Cisco certs are a definite plus

IS Support Specialist- Systems Operations

What you'll do at BitPusher:

  • Work with customers on designing, building, and migration of production services as well as ongoing management and support
  • Be a hands-on engineer for BitPusher's infrastructure, including networking, imaging and provisioning environment, and administrative/operations automation tools

Looking for a Sr. Linux Admin. at OpenMarket in Seattle

OpenMarket is looking for a Sr. Linux Administrator for our downtown Seattle office (two blocks north of Pike Place Market). Ideally, someone with a CentOS or RHEL background.

On-call rotates weekly, starting on Friday mornings. While it's 24/7 during that time, in practice, the whole team handles issues during the business day. Most people use individual work-provided phones to receive alerts, though sending them to a personal phone is an option. Alert frequency is currently around one a day or so, but widely variable with serious issues much more rare. Our SA's are paid an additional amount to be on-call.

While we don't have any required travel, it is not uncommon for members of the team to visit other sites once or twice a year. Travel for datacenter work not very likely.
